Music

Music -  Intent statement

At Wren Park, our music curriculum is designed to be accessible to all so that every child knows more, remembers more and understands more. We aim to build a music curriculum that is progressive and builds on previous learning that promote a love of music and singing across a broad curriculum.  We aim to engage, motivate and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity, self- esteem, mental health and sense of achievement. Music is a jewel in people’s lives, from early childhood, rhyme, rhythm, singing and exploring sound which provides pleasure and stimulation. Within Wren Park we aim to foster, explore and develop children's interaction with sounds, music and singing through play and development, including building knowledge of pitch, rhythm, musical notation and the ability to listen attentively, appreciate and respond to a wide range of musical instruments and genres.

At Wren Park, the children have the opportunity to learn an instrument, choosing from the following: piano, guitar, violin and flute. These are taught by various musical professionals and the children’s skills are show cased in a musical concert at the end of the summer term where parents are encouraged to see their child’s achievements. We support children who wish to develop and enhance their musical skills further by encouraging them to participate in wider opportunities, including musical groups or lessons outside of school.

We aim to encourage our children to sing loud and be proud of their musical talents and own voices. We believe that children should be given plenty of opportunities to perform and showcase their talents. We like to share our talents with the wider community through concerts within school and visits to the local area, where we sing to entertain others.

If you have any safeguarding concerns regarding children please email: safeguarding@wrenpark.derby.sch.uk (Attendance this term 94.71%- let’s see if we can break the 96% mark soon!)
